Here in the Philippines, if you go to the Doctor they usually tell the patient, “Man you are sick or something is wrong with you!” This is one of the reasons that I do not like to see a doctor. My wife was admitted for five days in one of our public hospitals. While there I met a 19 year old girl but she looked older than that because of her sickness. Her stomach kept getting bigger and bigger but the doctor said that they cannot find what is wrong but it is very obvious that she is really really sick.

As you can see she is very thin and very weak. She is in our neighboring bed. As she struggled to survive I asked her mother if I could pray for her. Her mother is very devoted to Roman Catholic belief and she said that she prays for her daughter and I said ok. When I talked to her daughter and asked her if I could pray for her she said yes. I told her that everybody that looks at her, including myself, would think there is no cure, but I said that I could give her hope in Jesus. I  read some scripture about the woman who bleed for 12 years. Imagine 12 years of suffering and she desired to be healed. I said, Like you I believe that you have a desire to be healed but if there is  not help from Jesus you can’t be healed even if you have the best doctor. Only Jesus can heal you. So I started to read the scripture and while I read it her mother said that her hair stood on end. I believe that it’s the Holy Spirit and the power of God that was felt by the mother. I explained how to be healed. That she should have faith in Jesus like the woman who bled for 12 years. I prayed and ask her if she was willing to receive Jesus and ask forgiveness for her sin. She said yes. So Princess received salvation that night. Then she slept well.

After our time at the hospital I decided to visit Princess but I found out that she was with Jesus. She had died on Tuesday February 2, 2010.  I am sad about her death but happy because I believe Princess is now with Jesus.

Though she didn’t receive physical healing, she has been spiritually healed. Ministry is everywhere! You don’t need to go far. You just need to open your eyes around you and see the opportunies to minister to the needy everywhere.

MENTORING

When I was young, I asked one of the karate experts to be my mentor. He said yes and I was so happy about it.  I have a question. If somebody asks you to be their mentor, would you agree? What if they are older than you, not just five years gap? Somebody asked me if she can be my student and I her mentor. I said yes because she is willing to reach out to children. Although she is 67 years old I believe that God will use her mightily to reach children.

I need your prayer for this opportunity to have a student that is willing to learn how to do this ministry. It is never too late to reach the lost no matter how old you are.

iRock Philippines step up  another fun and exciting outreach for the kids at Bato Santa Cruz Davao del Sur. It is Christmas season and we kept thinking, ‘ what is the best gift we could give to the unreached children?’ We prayed and decided that we would give a gift that will last forever, the Message of Christ Born”.

At a beginning of the outreach, we had  fun games that everybody could be part of and enjoy.

After the games, we proceeded to a most important part of our program, the Gospel Message. I did some gospel tricks and also a  shared a story with a life changing application.

After the message, we proceeded to a very interesting which is also my favorite, eating time. The iRock Ministries America sponsored the whole event and the food. We gave those who attended delicious spaghetti and cold juice.

( Note: In a rural or remote part of the Philippines, this kind of food is only seen on television, I even dreamed to eat spaghetti and it didn’t happen until I moved to Davao at the age of 21 years old.) Feeding these little ones is a great opportunity and a great blessing.

The great thing about doing children ministry is this; the picture above is the proof that you are not just ministering to the kids but also their parents. It is a culture for us that parents will accompany their children even though they are not invited. And we cater to them also

Before the kids and their mothers go back to their home, my wife Nene packed a few pieces of candy and some crackers for each of the children.

The kids were very excited and very happy because they received a gift. As they reached out for the gift, their smile revealed what they felt inside. But the most exciting thing was, when they received a free Cebuano bible which is donated also from iRock Ministries America.  It is really good to have our things and we called it that it belongs to me.

I consider that the word of God is the most valuable gift that we gave this Christmas season. But the excitement did not end there.

Another donation from iRock Ministries, were sculpting balloons and the knowledge to make a balloon. Ptr. Terry Williams taught me how to make a balloon when she came here for a mission trip. We gave them a balloon as they departed and went home. Smiles and love marked their heart as we shared the love of Jesus with them. They will never forget the experience since it was the first they experienced this way of sharing the gospel.  This event will be a yearly activity and if you want to be part of this great opportunity of reaching the children, you can share it in many ways.

  1. Send a Balik-Bayan package that contains any kinds of give aways.
  2. Donate money for the expense of the outreach this coming December
  3. Pray for us; both iRock Ministries in the United States and iRock Philippines
